Royal Wedding

Posted by: gemini80 on: May 1, 2011

I am going to start this by saying that I have reached overload on the Royal Wedding…but I’m still gonna put a post about it up cuz I’m that crazy. :-)

Being a night owl, I stayed up to watch the coverage on BBC America – I did jump to MSNBC, TLC, NBC, and ABC from time to time, but pretty much stayed with BBC America. I would have to say that I am NOT a fan of fascinators….at least not the ones worn at the wedding….Mom, Allie, and I all went ick when we saw HRH Princess Beatrice of York and the fascinator she wore…for what she likely paid for it she was overcharged.

As for the Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding gown…I liked it, simple yet elegant. I had read an article on line talking about how she really liked Grace Kelly’s wedding dress, and Kate’s gown kinda reminded me of that, having the lace overlay and sleeves (i’d post pix but have no idea about how to do that). Found it interesting that the tiara she wore is no one of the ones most people thought it would be…most people thought it would be the duchess of teck or strathmore tiara. Unlike most people that i’ve seen commenting online tho, I think the scroll tiara (or halo tiara as the press release stated) was wonderful. It had been the Queen Mother’s so it was a nice way for the Royal Family to include her in the day. It will be interesting to see what tiara’s the duchess wears in the future, if it is still the scroll tiara, or if she is loaned another tiara or if one is purchased/made especially for her.

Was also very cute to see HRH The Prince of Wales holding the bridesmaid (i think eliza lopes, who is the Duchess of Cornwall’s granddaughter) so she could see over the ledge of the balcony.

May the happy couple have a long and happy life together….and may we now concentrate on other news events, like the tornados that destroyed the south.

Moving Sucks…and am I glad it’s almost done!

Posted by: gemini80 on: October 15, 2010

So, for the last 2 months we’ve been moving from the house to an apartment and now there is a light at the end of the tunnel…we have like, 2 boxes and 1 phone chair left to move then we are DONE! I may never move again (or at least not for some time) because moving is such a pain.  This particular move was made even more, I guess memorable is the word I’d use,  by relatives and their comments about my books (apparently the fact that I’m a bookworm and like to read books more than once is worse than being addicted to heroin or something…whatever) and why I don’t get rid of all of my books (Never! :-) ). Oh well…moving continued even after that.

In other news, I also now have a BN Nook…tons of books at my fingertips, all in one place? I love it! :-)

More on the great migration later

Kittens! :-)

Posted by: gemini80 on: January 3, 2010

Allie and Jer brought kittens home from Winona with them…they named theirs Sherbert (ya, I know they spelled it different :-) . I named the other two Robin and Roux – they are supposed to go to the farm, but I am hoping to convince Mom to let us keep them all b/c they are so cute and I like Robin and Roux better than Sherbert, even if you can’t hardly pick them up yet (they were left at a farm and abandonded, so it’s taking time to get them used to human contact), so I am keeping my fingers crossed…and plan to clean the basement really good tonite when i’m done with work and tomorrow so maybe I can convince Mom to let us keep all 3 (I’ll even pay for the other two if necessary myself, vet bills and such).

Winter Storm

Posted by: gemini80 on: December 27, 2009

Well, I survied the 3 day Xmas blizzard of ’09…am tired of shoveling the back deck so the dog will go out, and will soon tire of blowing snow from the driveway. If this 17 or so inches was the last snow we got all winter, I’d be happy….which is crazy when you consider I live in a state known for winter weather.

Dog comes in looking like the canine version of a Yeti….snow all over everywhere…crazy Cocker Spaniel views snow as frozen water – and since she loves going to the lake, sees snow as frozen lake I guess b/c she rolls in it, dives in it…you name it. :-)

Thanksgiving Week

Posted by: gemini80 on: November 22, 2009

Well, we are having Turkey Day at our house this year….makes for a nice change of pace :-) . Just hope the Turkey turns out okay (only 2nd time I’ve ever made a whole turkey, so it could be interesting….even if Mom is helping me cook it. :-) )

Also have to start thinking of what I’d like for Christmas so Mom and Grandma and such have time to shop….there’s the actual list I’ll give them, as well as they I know I’ll never get it but still might put on the list…combining the two can be fun. :-)

November already?!

Posted by: gemini80 on: November 8, 2009

Here it is the second week in November….and already the christmas ads are out, the christmas candy is out….it’s crazy.

Also crazy is that it’s November and it’s raining like it’s May….gotta love the weather here. :-)

How is it already almost Halloween?!

Posted by: gemini80 on: October 18, 2009

Seems like just yesterday it was Labor Day, Summer was just ending, and now here it is, the middle of October….heaters are turned on in the house b/c it’s getting colder….ick. I am SO not ready for it to be winter…not to mention there is too much road construction to be finished around town for it to be this close to winter.

Managed to get laundry done at the laundrymat in record time today….got there at 1:45, left at 3:10…also did it for least amount of quarters ever….will miracles never cease?!

Amish Friendship Bread and Washing Machines

Posted by: gemini80 on: August 15, 2009

Okay, so I never knew there were so many variations for the Amish Friendship Bread Starter…Chocolate…butterscotch…lemom…carrot cake….i can’t decide which one I want to try! :-)

As for washing machines, of course the MayTag would decide that 3:30 am is when it wants to suddenly quit working in high spin, causing me to have to wring clothes out by hand so I have clothes to wear in the morning! Grr!

Today’s news….

Posted by: gemini80 on: June 25, 2009

They say death comes in 3′s and I guess that’s true….Ed McMahon died yesterday, and today Farah Fawcett and Michael Jackson died. The big stunner was Michael Jackson…while his personal life may be seen as weird by some (myself included :-) ), his music was good….Beat It is one of the few songs on guitar hero that I’m actually good at.

I figure the internet will be very, very slow tonight with his passing.

May his children, parents, siblings and friends find peace and comfort in the days to come.

Spring is here….I think :-)

Posted by: gemini80 on: April 20, 2009

The weather is nice…warm enough to need a lightweight jacket,  I’ve seen several Robins, so I believe that spring has sprung. :-)

Work is good…somedays I feel like I’m selling ice to eskimos and having them believe it’s something they’ve never heard of before, but yeah, somedays it’s a drag….at least I have a job.

Hopefully I get the night of the Kenny Chesney concert off…I have the opportunity of getting floor seats so…..
